Rebind of one of my favourite books "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins (Barrett-Koehler Publishers, 2004) . NB/ the 2016 updated version "the New Confessions of an Economic Hitman" is even more extraordinary, 😀
This is my 2026 contribution to this title. US economic hegemony and its hold on the global community is faltering (and is in a state of Disrepair - hence the composition of the Stars and Stripes in a state of deterioration)*. Somehow, for generations the USA has magically maintained an incongruous presentation of itself, on the global stage, as a leader and force for good. As a questioning adult, I learned of Western colonial domination and from this book how the USA continued on an evolving path of economic imperialism. Now, especially under the Trump administration, the veil of "friendly" pretence has been lifted. The symbolism of the "V" is central to concept - although effectively the same gesture, viewed from one side (front cover) the meaning is well understood as a symbol for "Peace" and the other side (reverse cover) is, at least in many British influenced nations, is a "F… You".
